Things are never simple when it comes to the busy love life of one Emily Cooper (Lily Collins), the marketing maven at the heart of Netflix’s “Emily in Paris,” and that certainly seems true for the show’s upcoming fifth installment, which is set to debut all 10 episodes on the streaming service on Thursday, December 18.
Last we caught up with Cooper, she was happily in amore with her Italian love, cashmere heir Marcello Muratori (Eugenio Franceschini), and her new life in Rome, Italy. However, the ghosts of romance past — like her former chef-beau Gabriel (Lucas Bravo), who we saw peeling off from Paris to get Emily back in the final moments of season 4 — may come back to haunt her in the new episodes.

“I think anything’s possible, of course,” Laviscount said of Alfie and Emily potentially getting back together in season 5. “It’s like in real relationships in real life. You kind of look back, and you can either romanticize past relationships or you can just call them the devil and be done with it. But I think there’s always a kind of scope in the ‘Emily in Paris’ universe for anything to happen.”
He added: “I wouldn’t write them off.”
The 33-year-old performer also teased that fans will see his “Emily in Paris” character in a bit of a new light in this latest edition of the Netflix rom-com series. “I think this season we see a little bit of a different side of Alfie — I think more of an adventurous [side], I’ll put it that way,” Laviscount divulged to the outlet. “Alfie’s out there. You know, I just want to tell you! I’m holding back. It’s crazy.”
As for what else to expect from “Emily in Paris” season 5, Netflix previously shared an official synopsis for the impending eps: “Now the head of Agence Grateau Rome, Emily faces professional and romantic challenges as she adapts to life in a new city. But just as everything falls into place, a work idea backfires, and the fallout cascades into heartbreak and career setbacks.”
The description continues: “Seeking stability, Emily leans into her French lifestyle, until a big secret threatens one of her closest relationships. Tackling conflict with honesty, Emily emerges with deeper connections, renewed clarity, and a readiness to embrace new possibilities.”
