If you’re getting your pre-awards season fix or just scratching a big, lavish cinema itch by watching Sinners or One Battle After Another in 70mm IMAX this weekend, you’ll get an extra treat from what will surely be one of 2026’s big contenders: Christopher Nolan‘s The Odyssey.
According to Variety, theatergoers can feast their eyeballs upon a “nearly six-minute” prologue for The Odyssey on December 12 ahead of screenings of the Ryan Coogler and Paul Thomas Anderson re-releases. And that’s not all: “The following weekend, a shorter (but still full-length) version of The Odyssey trailer will play ahead of Avatar: Fire and Ash showings,” which begin December 19.
Will Nolan fans turn up especially to watch six minutes of The Odyssey? Considering the movie is so highly anticipated that the first tickets went on sale a full year ahead of its release date (July 17, 2026), it seems quite likely. Sharing a special look with people who are already seated for 70mm IMAX showings of other movies is also a wise move; The Odyssey, of course, is famously the first movie in history to be filmed entirely with IMAX cameras.
Nolan—who previously shared a short, in-theaters-only teaser ahead of Jurassic World Rebirth and Superman months ago—isn’t going to leak fresh footage on TikTok or in Fortnite, in other words.
The Odyssey adapts the classic Homer epic and stars Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Lupita Nyong’o, Robert Pattinson, Charlize Theron, and Jon Bernthal. Will you be heading to the IMAX theater to add six more minutes onto Sinners (which runs two hours and 18 minutes) or One Battle After Another (two hours and 42 minutes) for that side quest to ancient Greece?
