The Samsung Z Fold 6 was announced at the Samsung Unpacked event on July 10, 2024. Here’s everything you need to know about the new features introduced upon its release.

Galaxy Z Fold 6 Release Date

The Z Fold 6 became available for pre-order immediately after the 2024 Unpacked event, with general availability starting July 24, 2024. It was discontinued in July 2025 after Samsung officially unveiled the Galaxy Z Fold 7.

    Galaxy Z Fold 6 Price

    The Z Fold 6 started at $1,899.99, a slight increase from the $1,799.99 Z Fold 5.

At release, it was available in Silver Shadow, Pink, and Navy. Craft Black and Purity White were also available directly from Samsung’s website.

What New Features Arrived With the Galaxy Z Fold 6 Release?

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 gained several design and hardware perks over its predecessor.

It’s slightly larger than the Z Fold 5, but it’s unlikely you’ll notice. The main display remains at 7.6 inches, but the cover screen has grown by one-tenth of an inch to 6.3 inches. Both displays have a 120Hz variable refresh rate. The phone also weighs a little less, coming in at just under 240g vs. the 253g Fold 5.

Unlike the Z Flip 6, which got a larger battery in 2024, the Z Fold 6’s is the same as its predecessor’s: 4,400mAh. That’s still a pretty big battery, and with a more efficient processor–the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3–the Fold 6 should see improved battery life even without more capacity.

As for camera specs, there’s a 4MP under-display lens and a 10MP option for selfies. Here’s the rear triple camera setup:

    • 50MP wide
    • 12MP ultra-wide
    • 10MP telephoto with 3x optical zoom and 30x space zoom

The storage and RAM in the Z Fold 6 is identical to the Z Fold 5. Options include 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB. All three are equipped with 12GB of RAM.

Here are some notable software features introduced with the release of the Fold 6, which shipped with Android 14 and One UI 6.1.1:

    • A New AI-powered Assistant: Google Gemini replaces Google Assistant. It’s aware of context, so you can pull it up while viewing an image, video, or text to get relevant information.
    • Built-in Notes App: Pulls text out of PDF files and translate, transcript, and summarize your voice recordings with Note Assist.
    • Composer: A new feature built into Samsung Keyboard that can grasp your tone from past social media posts to help generate text that sounds more like you.
    • Sketch to Image: Helps you generate images based on sketches you make with the S Pen.
    • Translation Tools: Galaxy AI powers a new conversation mode that lets two people view translations in real time on the main and cover screens. And Live Translate works across some third-party calling apps in addition to the built-in Phone app.
    • Photo Assist: Provides AI-driven, image-editing tools.
    • Portrait Studio: Generates new looks for your images, like cartoon or watercolor styles.
    • Instant Slow-mo: Adds frames to existing videos to make them play back more slowly.

Is the Galaxy Z Fold 6 Still Worth Buying?

While the Galaxy Z Fold 7 is the more recent model, if you’re upgrading from an older model or hoping to try out the Samsung foldable experience, the Z Fold 6 could be the way to go.

You can find unlocked models at third-party retailers for well below the release list price upon and still receive the benefit of new AI enhancements and software support for years to come.

The Z Fold 6 also boasts several design improvements over the Z Fold 5, making the display area larger but the build thinner and lighter than prior versions.

However, if you want a more powerful processor, a significantly improved camera, and a bigger screen in an even lighter build, the Z Fold 7 surpasses the Z Fold 6 and might prove the better investment.
