When exactly the Christmas festivities should begin is a debate that sparks plenty of opinions (personally, I think the holiday season kicks off on November 1). Luckily, it seems the best streaming services agree, because Netflix is officially bringing the cheer early this year. The platform is adding a whopping 27 Christmas movies and shows throughout November 2025.

Among the titles, there are plenty of underrated flicks from the past and fresh originals to explore. That includes an overlooked Christmas drama led by Anna Kendrick and streaming originals featuring stars like Alicia Silverstone and Minka Kelly.

Of course, not all 27 offerings are created equal, which is why we’ve narrowed the list down to five picks worth adding to your Netflix watchlist first. If you’re looking for fun and a little festive warmth, these titles could be a good place to start your Christmas countdown.

    ‘Happy Christmas’ (2014)

    Watch On

For a Christmas movie that’s heartfelt without being overly sentimental, “Happy Christmas” hits the mark. It pairs the warmer moments with lively, clever conversations, offering a relatable portrait of family life. Most of all, the movie’s careful attention to its characters results in plenty of laughs.

After a bad breakup, twentysomething Jenny (Anna Kendrick) moves into the basement of her older brother Jeff’s (Joe Swanberg) Chicago home, hoping for a fresh start during the holidays. Jeff, a filmmaker, lives a quiet life with his novelist wife, Kelly (Melanie Lynskey), and their young son. A rhythm that’s quickly disrupted by Jenny’s impulsive behaviour and late nights out. As the siblings adjust to living under one roof again, Kelly finds herself drawn to Jenny’s free-spirited energy, and the two strike up an unexpected friendship.

Being the first Christmas original of the year on Netflix, “A Merry Little Ex-Mas” has the job of bringing the festive spirit to streaming. While my expectations are usually low for these Hallmark-style movies, I can’t deny they’re always on in the background this time of year, and I’m sure this one will be my first proper Christmas watch.

Kate (Alicia Silverstone) and Everett (Oliver Hudson) are a recently separated couple determined to give their children one last festive holiday together at the family home. Kate is preparing to sell the house and begin a fresh chapter, and she hopes the Christmas they share will be warm, nostalgic and memorable. But just when the decorations are up and the snow has fallen, Everett shows up with his successful new girlfriend in tow.

The other Christmas originals arriving throughout the rest of the month have the task of keeping that festive cheer alive. I’m particularly intrigued by “Champagne Problems,” whose charming trailer and appealing cast have me feeling that my hopes might be a little higher this time.

Sydney Price (Minka Kelly) is a driven executive who lands the career‑making opportunity to acquire the esteemed champagne house Château Cassell in France just before Christmas. She arrives in Paris ready to close the deal, only to take one wild night off and meet Henri Cassell (Tom Wozniczka), with whom she instantly connects. The next day she’s shocked to discover Henri is the founder’s son and deeply intertwined with the very company she’s trying to buy.

    ‘Christmas in the Heartland’ (2017)

    Watch On

Not every Christmas movie has to be a romance filled with tension and festive yearning. Many focus on characters and deliver meaningful stories in their own way, including “Christmas in the Heartland,” a drama with a predictable plot but charming characters at its core.

On a flight to Oklahoma, two teenage girls from opposite worlds strike up a conversation and realise they’re both dreading the Christmas holidays ahead. Kara (Sierra McCormick), a spoiled rich girl, is being sent to spend Christmas with grandparents she’s never met, while Jessie (Brighton Sharbino), a shy small-town teen, is visiting wealthy relatives for the first time. On a whim, they decide to trade places, each curious to see how the other half lives.

    ‘Jingle Bell Heist’ (2025)

    Watch On

With a title like “Jingle Bell Heist,” the movie practically tells you what to expect. Whether Netflix is running out of Christmas movie ideas is up for debate, but this one is definitely… intriguing. It could lean too heavily into its silliness, or it could surprise us by standing apart from the typical romance-driven holiday fare. I guess we’ll have to see!

Sophia (Olivia Holt) is a sharp‑witted retail worker in London, scraping by while caring for her sick mother and juggling two jobs. Nick (Connor Swindells) is a down‑on‑his‑luck repairman and single father desperate to turn his life around. When both set their sights on the same glamorous London department store for a daring Christmas Eve heist, they form an uneasy partnership.
