Google’s Nano Banana image generation and editing model has been a massive hit ever since it first launched back in late August. For the uninitiated, this model helps you generate realistic AI images from text and edit existing photos with natural language prompts. Given the success and popularity, Google seems to be testing Nano Banana image editing in Gemini’s floating overlay.

Google is testing a Nano Banana-powered image editing option in the Gemini overlay

The news comes via Android Authority, which today reported spotting a new “Edit this image” option above the Gemini overlay. The latest change is reportedly visible in the Google app’s version 16.42.61. Per the report, the option is only visible when a user adds an image when they trigger Gemini over an app or menu.

Now, you must be wondering how the new option works, right? When you first tap on the “Edit this image” button, Nano Banana mode is triggered. That’s where you can add any text prompt to edit the image as per your liking. If you’ve ever used Nano Banana in the Gemini app, the process is mostly similar.

Before you get too excited, do note that the feature isn’t available to everyone. Triggering Gemini when using an app still prompts many to use “Share Screen With Live” or “Ask about screen option.”

Google is doing its best to add the image editing option almost everywhere

This isn’t the first time Google has tried finding a new home for Nano Banana. The company has been testing image editing capability using the model inside Google Lens, NotebookLM as well as in the AI Mode. The news outlet further adds that the company is also testing image editing with Nano Banana in Google Photos.

All in all, it seems Google isn’t stopping soon, as it wants to leverage the success of its new model by integrating it into every corner of its apps. In related news, Google appears to also be testing a “Feeling Lucky” option with Nano Banana. At this point, it’s unclear what the feature does. It’s possible that you might be able to create some trending edits using Nano Banana whenever that feature goes live for everyone.
