Samsung’s skinny phone saga has been a rollercoaster.

First, the whispers said the S26 Edge was dead, then came a hint that a different ultra-slim project could still arrive. The latest murmur points to a device in development with a codename that nods to thin frames, which makes the Edge story feel less over than it looked a week ago.

A fresh report has suggested Samsung might have paused the straightforward sequel to chase a bolder take that would arrive on its own timeline. This connects the dots between a revived S26 Plus and a separate ultra thin model brewing in the background.

The idea is to keep three phones at launch, then slide a slimmer entry into the year once the kinks are ironed out. If that is the move, it sounds less like a U turn and more like Samsung trying to avoid a repeat of awkward timing.

We get why this is messy. The S25 Edge launch was mixed/ The phone had a genuine wow factor but some features and omissions split opinion. Thin felt great in the hand, yet battery life and price made it a tough sell outside the early adopter crowd. Our Galaxy S25 Edge review wrestled with that trade, and even fans admitted the charm came with caveats.

Now here is the twist. Only days ago, we argued that cutting the Edge would be the wrong lesson to learn from soft sales and late arrivals. The reasoning was that a second run, with smarter pricing and a more unified lineup, could turn a niche idea into a proper pillar. That piece reads a little louder now that the rumour mill is leaning toward a comeback.

If Samsung really is cooking a thinner phone on a staggered schedule, then we would of course be on board. Launch the core trio, then bring a refined slim model down the line once some of the kinks have been ironed out.

That sounds like a better sequel than a straight repeat, and it keeps the dream of an Android rival to the iPhone Air alive without asking people to settle all over again.

The Galaxy S25 Edge is stunningly thin and light, putting it head and shoulders above every other flagship phone on the market. It comes at a cost however, primarily in terms of battery life, with struggles to make it through a single day. It also lacks a dedicated zoom lens, though how much of a difference this makes in real-world use is debatable.

    • A joy to use and hold

    • Uncompromising flagship screen

    • Plenty of power

    • Solid camera performance

    • Battery struggles to last a single day

    • Relatively slow 25W charging

    • No dedicated zoom lens

    • Gets warm rather easily
