Kingston, one of the leading brands in memory and storage solutions across the globe, has announced a new storage solution for people who need space for their digital life on the go with the new Dual Portable SSD. What is a dual portable SSD, you may ask? It’s essentially like it sounds. It’s a portable storage solution that lets you transfer files to and from different devices.
It’s especially useful if you don’t really want to take up a lot of extra room in your bag. Kingston’s dual portable SSD isn’t like your typical SSD. It’s designed like a thumb drive, so it’s infinitely more portable than any external SSD you would normally use. What’s more, is that it can be used with so many more devices, because it supports two connection types.
The Kingston Dual Portable SSD uses USB Type-C and USB Type-A connectors
This is the key factor that makes this an interesting piece of hardware. Typically, with an external SSD, you’d plug it in with a USB-A or USB-C cable. Your desktop or laptop would then have access to the information on that drive. Not Kingston’s new solution.
It has both USB-A and USB-C connectors. One on each side. So, you can plug it into devices that only have USB-A ports, and if you have a device that only has a USB-C port, you can plug it into that too. This will likely be incredibly useful for anyone who needs or wants to transfer things from devices like digital cameras and mobile devices to their PC. A lot of digital cameras and mobile devices are going to have USB-C connections. Laptops and desktops have both.
Kingston says both connectors on this new portable SSD support USB 3.2 Gen 2 speeds. That means fast file transfers for you so you can get back to more important things than sitting around waiting. This new SSD also comes in storage sizes ranging from 512GB all the way up to 2TB. While the capacity might be a little under what some are looking for, there’s no denying this is much more convenient than something that requires a cable. It’s smaller, for one. Without the cable, you also have less stuff to carry.
The Dual Portable SSD goes on sale today, and all are listed on Amazon. Kingston also has them listed on its direct website. The 512GB model retails for $96.99, the 1TB model retails for $143.99, and the 2TB model retails for 238.99. Only the 1TB model seems to be in stock at the moment, however.
