“Predators” is an investigation into the Dateline NBC series “To Catch A Predator” which ran for four years until 2007. Affably hosted by Chris Hansen, It was a smash hit at the time but tragic consequences including a suicide and a change in the public mood have thrown up moral complexities.
“Predators” premieres exclusively on Paramount Plus in the U.S. and internationally — viewers can watch “Predators” from anywhere with a VPN.
The premise of the show was simple: Pedophiles were stung by decoys pretending to be under-age children, surprised by a TV crew when they arrived at a suburban property armed with Mike’s Hard Lemonade and condoms. After being told they were “Free to go,” the predators were arrested by law enforcement waiting outside. What was wrong with exposing their wrongdoing?
Quite a lot, according to David Osit’s “grimly compelling” documentary. Streaming now on Paramount+, “Predators” details the subsequent suicide of one perp and asks whether watching the moment peoples’ lives crashed (no matter how despicable the people concerned might be) crossed any journalistic lines or was an appropriate vehicle for what amounted to reality TV.
Rated 99% on Rotten Tomatoes, this “To Catch a Predator” doc is sure to appeal to those on both sides of the Chris Hansen debate. Here’s our guide to how to watch “Predators” online and from anywhere in the world.
