It looks like Fitbit fans will have to wait a little longer for new hardware.
As part of its Fitbit Coach preview, Google has confirmed that new Fitbit hardware is coming, but not this year.
Instead, we’ll be waiting until 2026 for the brand’s first fitness tracker launch in years.
In a statement shared during the announcement, Google said it’s “launching new Fitbit hardware next year,” alongside the full rollout of the personalised health coach and redesigned Fitbit app. The Fitbit team also teased “an exciting year ahead,” hinting that the brand isn’t slowing down anytime soon.
That’s welcome news for anyone who’s noticed Fitbit’s recent quiet streak. The last full-fledged tracker, the Fitbit Charge 6, was released back in September 2023, while the more affordable Inspire 3 dates back to 2022.

Its Versa 4 and Sense 2 smartwatches haven’t seen direct successors either, unless you count the Wear OS–powered Ace LTE, a $180 kids’ smartwatch launched earlier this year.
With the Pixel Watch now well-established, Google is unlikely to release another Fitbit smartwatch. The Pixel Watch 4 comes with lots of Fitbit branding, so it makes sense to keep the Fitbits as cheaper options.
It would also make sense for future Fitbits to continue the brand’s focus on longer battery life, which is around a week, lightweight design, and cross-platform compatibility, especially for iOS users who don’t want to switch ecosystems.
The strategy makes sense. With the Pixel Watch 4 starting at £399 and up, Fitbit’s cheaper range remains the go-to for people who want a more fitness-first wearable. A 2026 refresh could see Google lean into that gap – perhaps with a sleeker tracker or even an “ultra” fitness smartwatch built on Wear OS.
For now, all we know is that Fitbit isn’t done. It just needs a bit more time to catch its breath.
