Google is now widely rolling out the Call Recording feature on the Pixel 6 series and later models with Android 14 and up. Pixel phones that don’t have the AI-powered Call Notes are gaining this. Google says the recordings will be saved on your device. The native call recording is making its way with the version 198+ of the Google Phone app.

Google rolls out call recording to Pixel 6 and later models

If you’re using an older Pixel phone, you can enable the call recording feature by going to the Phone app > Settings option in the hamburger menu > Call Assist, and toggle on Call Recording. You will see a Call Assist menu on the calling screen right next to the Audio Emoji.

Once you hit the call recording button for the first time, it’ll ask you to reconfirm whether you want to record the call or not. The feature then shows a brief countdown with the message that says it will notify everyone that you’re recording the call.

You can delete all call recordings instantly

There’s a red dot next to the call duration, indicating that the call is being recorded. The “Stop” button is in the Call Assist menu. You can listen to the call recording from the Home tab of the phone app. Calls with a recording will have a microphone icon next to the contact’s name. There’s an M3 Expressive audio player that expands when you tap to listen to the audio recordings.

Google lets you automatically delete call recordings after 7, 14, or 30 days. There’s an option to delete all recordings instantly or never automatically delete them. The feature gives you an option to automatically record calls from unknown numbers as well as automatically record calls from specific contacts.

Besides the call recording, the November Pixel Feature Drop is bringing Call Notes to Canada, India, Ireland, Australia, and Japan. This adds transcriptions and summaries.
