Ketan Gadgil Studio has designed SSCA Studio Kitchen in Pune that brings smart technology to the heart of India’s culinary education — a space built for creativity, performance, and broadcast.

The Symbiosis School of Culinary Arts (SSCA) Studio Kitchen, designed by Ketan Gadgil Studio, marks a bold new chapter in India’s culinary evolution — a space where learning, innovation, and performance meet in one seamless experience.

As India strengthens its presence on the global culinary map, the concept of professional cookery as both an art and a career has flourished. With the inauguration of the country’s first culinary studio auditorium, this vision now takes tangible shape — blending architectural precision, smart technology, and a deep understanding of the culinary craft.

    A Kitchen Designed for Masters

Architect Ketan Gadgil describes the project as “a kitchen designed not just for cooking, but for communicating.” Inspired by the iconic TV shows and digital cooking channels that shaped modern food culture — from Sanjeev Kapoor to YouTube’s global cooking community — the SSCA Studio Kitchen is built for interaction, education, and inspiration.

At its heart, it is a 150-seater, fully air-conditioned auditorium that doubles as a professional-grade culinary studio. Designed for live demonstrations, lectures, workshops, and broadcasts, the space integrates advanced audio-visual systems, smart automation, and acoustical engineering — all wrapped in refined, theatrical aesthetics.

    Design & Experience

Every design decision serves a dual purpose — performance and presentation.

Smart Integration: Lighting, appliances, HVAC, and exhaust systems are fully automated and remotely operated. Sensor-based smart lighting adapts to each performance, creating dynamic mood shifts while providing precise task lighting for the chef.

Lighting Design: The kitchen and audience zones are distinctly lit — ensuring clarity for demonstration and ambience for viewers. Indirect lighting highlights culinary features and display panels, while LAFIT’s tunable and dimmable lighting systems provide flexibility in colour temperature and intensity.

Ventilation & Chimney Innovation: Being an auditorium, ventilation design had to go beyond the typical. A custom-built, self-exhaust cooking range by RIVAC integrates suction and filtration directly into the countertop, ensuring a smoke-free, odor-free environment without overhead hoods. Equipment includes ELECTROLUX 700XP modular cooking systems — featuring induction tops, grills, and fryers for professional-level functionality.

    Immersive Audio-Visual Ecosystem

The studio’s AV infrastructure transforms every culinary demonstration into a broadcast-ready experience.

Camera System: Ceiling-mounted, app-controlled Panasonic 4K PTZ cameras on rail systems capture every movement from multiple angles — streamed to large 98″ and 55″ displays for real-time viewing.

Production Suite:  A centralized AV control station at the rear of the auditorium manages all camera feeds, lighting, and sound. The Data Video HS-1300 Streaming Studio enables live streaming, recording, and editing — allowing chefs to reach audiences on platforms like YouTube and Zoom instantly.

Sound Design: Sennheiser wireless systems, Soundcraft mixing consoles, and Turbosound speakers deliver pristine audio, while the room’s acoustical panels and reflectors ensure clarity and resonance worthy of a professional auditorium.

    Technology That Serves Performance

The SSCA Studio Kitchen seamlessly combines smart systems and sustainability:

    • Energy-efficient VRV HVAC systems by Blue Star ensure comfort and air purity.
    • Centralized control allows the operator to manage lighting, sound, and visuals effortlessly.
    • Interoperable systems support video conferencing, live streaming, and on-site sessions with equal ease.

More than a teaching facility, the SSCA Studio Kitchen is an experience-driven stage — where culinary education meets design excellence. It celebrates the artistry of cooking, the precision of architecture, and the possibilities of technology.
