Meta released its first generation of smart glasses two years ago, in collaboration with Ray-Ban, and the world of wearables has never been the same. For this weekend only, you can get a pair of first-gen Meta Ray-Ban smart glasses for as low as $229, down 25% from their usual price of $299.

Also: I wore Google’s upcoming Android XR smart glasses, and it’s a future I’d actually want to live in

The Meta Ray-Ban smart glasses are available in three finishes: Wayfarer, Headliner, and Skyker. They can be ordered to match your prescription, and the company features tinted, clear, and Transitions lenses.

The glasses feature a five-microphone array for interacting with Meta’s AI assistant and can be used for up to four hours on a single charge.

For those who like to capture photos and videos on the go, these Meta smart glasses feature 1080p video resolution and a 12MP camera on the front, allowing you to take images of whatever is in front of you.

Comparing the first-generation glasses with the latest Meta Ray-Ban option will likely come down to how much you value a sharp-looking video and battery life. The latest release supports 3K video capture and features twice the battery life of the first generation, but also costs $379 (over $100 more than the Meta Ray-Ban Gen 2).

Either way, the first-generation Meta smart glasses will get most of the latest version’s software updates, including Conversation Focus and Live AI.

    How I rated this deal

This Meta Ray-Ban smart glasses deal earns a 3/5 rating for offering a 25% discount on a product that rarely goes on sale. Most people who want to buy a pair of Meta smart glasses likely wouldn’t need the 3K video resolution added to the second generation. Most smart glasses users would be satisfied with the first-generation Meta Ray-Bans, especially with the lower price.

While many sales events feature deals for a specific length of time, these deals are often on a limited-time basis, making them subject to expiring at any moment. Our ZDNET team of experts constantly monitors the deals we feature to keep our stories up-to-date.
