AT&T will raise the price of its internet plans by $5 per month starting Dec. 1. The company cites operational costs as the reason for the change and is notifying customers via email.

“To keep giving you the high-quality service you expect, we need to adjust our internet plan prices as our business needs change and costs go up,” a support page reads. “Starting December 1, 2025, the monthly price for AT&T Fiber and AT&T Internet service will go up by $5.”

AT&T also raised prices by $5 a month in November 2024.

The new hike, however, includes a reprieve for newer or lower-income customers. Those who subscribed in the last year or through the Access from AT&T program will be exempted from the hike, a company spokesperson tells The Verge.

The company is also offering discounts on AutoPay and paperless payment methods. You can get $10 off each month if you sign up for AutoPay via your bank account or save $5 if you sign up using your debit card. There’s also a $5-a-month discount on the AT&T Points Plus Card from Citi. These discounts will be reflected within the first two bill periods, AT&T says.

On Reddit, people expressed frustration with the “corporate greed” that leads to these price hikes. Others urged Redditors to be grateful they have a fiber connection. “I’d kill to even get cable, much less, fiber. Rural life is not for tech people,” one commented. “It’s worth it. My att fiber is insanely fast and reliable,” another said.

Still, home internet costs have been rising steadily, with no notable improvements in connectivity. According to a study published earlier this year by CNET and the Benton Institute for Broadband & Society, nearly 63% of US adults experienced an increase in their internet bills in 2024. On average, they paid $195 more than in 2023, and about half still received unreliable connectivity.

AT&T also offers Internet Air, its 5G-based home internet service. In our tests, we found it provides a consistent connection and decent speeds, but it costs more than competing services and isn’t as widely available.
