    The Download

    • Go to Settings > Apps > Mail > Mail Accounts > Add Account. Enter your email address and then log in.
    • Those instructions work for iCloud, Microsoft Exchange, Google, Yahoo, AOL, and Outlook.com.
    • For other accounts, tap choose from a list > Add Other Account.

This article describes how to add email to your iPhone using the built-in Mail app. These directions were made using iOS 26, but they should work similarly in older versions.

How to Add Multiple Email Accounts to the iPhone Mail App

The Mail app lets you log in to your existing email account in just a few steps. Follow these directions to sign in to iCloud, Gmail, Outlook.com, and other popular email services (or skip to the next section for other accounts).

    1. Open the Settings app.

    2. Go to Apps > Mail > Mail Accounts.

In some versions of iOS, it’s Mail > Accounts (or Passwords & Accounts).

    3. Tap Add Account > choose from a list.

    4. Select the provider and then log in to your account by entering the correct email address and password.

Because the steps differ based on the account, there’s no single set of instructions to provide at this point. Generally speaking, you’ll input your email address and password, and possibly define some other options along the way. Follow the onscreen prompts, and the email account should be added to your iPhone in just a few steps.

How to Manually Add an Email Account to Your iPhone

If the account you want to add is from a provider not listed on the Add Account screen, you’ll most likely need to take a slightly different (and slightly more complicated) approach. Follow these steps to fill out the email server details necessary for connecting to your account:

There are lots of other iPhone email apps beyond Apple’s Mail app. For example, you can use the Gmail app or the Outlook app for those accounts, but even the less popular email services usually offer a standalone app.

    1. Follow the first few steps from the last section by going to Apps > Mail > Mail Accounts > Add Account > choose from a list.

    2. Tap Add Other Account at the bottom.

    3. Tap Mail Account.

    4. Fill out the text boxes with your name, email address, password, and account name (it can be anything). Then, select Next.

    5. Choose the way you want to confirm the account: IMAP or POP. The email provider may have told you to use one or the other. If not, tap the one you prefer.

IMAP syncs your email across all your devices; it’s similar to using it from the provider’s website, where reading or deleting a message is reflected on all your connected devices. When using POP, all your messages are downloaded to your iPhone and then deleted from the server.

    6. Fill out the form and then tap Next.

The key pieces of information you’ll need are in the Incoming Mail Server and Outgoing Mail Server sections. In those, you’ll need to add a Host Name (something like mail.email.com), and a username and password to access that server.

Your email provider should have given this to you. If not, you’ll need to ask for it.

If everything is correct, the servers will respond, and your email account will be added to your iPhone. If there’s something wrong, an error will let you know.
