As October settles in and the evenings grow longer, there’s no better time to dim the lights and queue up something terrifying. Netflix has a solid library of horror titles, including both brand-new releases and cult classics that are perfect for delivering a good scare.

This article is part of Trick or Stream, a seasonal series where Tom’s Guide writers share their favorite horror movies and thrillers.

This year’s collection goes beyond the usual haunted houses and masked killers, offering everything from slow-burn psychological dread to monster mayhem and stylish supernatural chills. Whether you want to spend your night unraveling a mystery, jumping out of your seat, or nervously glancing at the shadows in the corner, Netflix has you covered.

Without further ado, here are the best horror movies on Netflix to stream this Halloween season. And for even more reccomendations, see what Halloween flicks to watch on Prime Video.

At first, Josef seems friendly (if a little odd), asking Aaron to document intimate moments of his life for his unborn son. But as the day goes on, Josef’s behaviour grows increasingly erratic and unsettling. From strange confessions to bizarre games, Aaron begins to sense that something isn’t right.

When he tries to leave, Josef’s attempts to keep him there turn manipulative and frightening. What seems like a harmless gig quickly turns into something far more menacing than Aaron could have imagined.

    ‘Until Dawn’ (2025)

UNTIL DAWN – Official Movie Trailer (HD) – YouTube

    Watch On

One year after her sister Melanie (Maia Mitchell) vanishes under mysterious circumstances, Clover (Ella Rubin) gathers her friends Max (Michael Cimino), Nina (Odessa A’zion), Megan (Ji-young Yoo), and Abe (Belmont Cameli) to retrace Melanie’s final known location — Glore Valley. Following a message sent from a remote gas station, the group arrives at an abandoned visitor center where they uncover Melanie’s trail… and a masked killer.

Throughout the night, they’re hunted and killed one by one. Then they wake back at the beginning of the same night. Each loop brings new horrors: different killers and monsters. With each death, their numbers dwindle and time resets. They soon learn that there is only a finite number of “deaths” before something irreversibly changes. Clover races to unravel what literally resets the night, outwit the deadly forces stalking them, and stay alive as long as she can. Their only chance is to survive until dawn.

The tapping continues, evolving into a mysterious disembodied voice claiming to be trapped behind the walls, calling his parents “evil.” His substitute teacher, Miss Devine (Cleopatra Coleman), becomes concerned after seeing Peter’s drawings pleading for help.

Peter’s frustration builds after a bully at school ruins his prized pumpkin, prompting him to push the bully down a flight of stairs. After being punished by his parents, Peter discovers a hidden door in their bedroom and makes a shocking discovery about his family.

Trapped in a house of horrors and pursued through the countryside, the group must use every ounce of strength and instinct to escape the blood-soaked nightmare waiting behind each door.
