If you’ve been looking to get a new budget phone or switch your provider, consider this Metro by T-Mobile deal: Right now, you can get an unlimited 5G phone line for $40, with no added activation fees or taxes, and a five-year price guarantee. Making this deal even sweeter is the fact that you can add a select Samsung or Motorola phone for free, whether you’re bringing your own number or signing up for a new one.

Unlike many other “free” phone deals that still make you pay for the phone upfront and get paid back over time via bill credits, this deal actually gives you the phone at no cost at checkout — all you’ll pay is $40 for the phone line, and the equipment taxes. Granted, you aren’t getting the latest iPhone: The phone options for bringing your number over include the Samsung Galaxy A16, the Motorola Moto G 5G, and the Motorola Moto G Power. But these are all solid budget options that we’ve tested and recommend for many people.

Also: T-Mobile is giving a free iPhone 17, iPad, and Apple Watch for Cyber Monday – how to qualify

The five-year price guarantee means the provider won’t change the price of talk, text, or 5G data on its network for at least five years while you’re on an eligible plan. The price guarantee also applies to the price for data on any wearable, tablet, or mobile internet lines you may add to your plan. Per-use charges, plan add-ons, third-party services, and network management practices aren’t included, according to T-Mobile.

T-Mobile does note that if you use a lot of data (more than 35GB/month), you may notice slower streams at times when the network is busy. Video streams on these plans are in SD. So if you’re looking for the fastest internet speeds and high-quality video streaming, this deal may not be for you. But if you’re looking for a basic phone plan that still allows you to surf the web and use your apps, this is a solid option.

This deal is for new customers only — if you currently use T-Mobile, or have been with Metro in the past 180 days, you can’t sign up. You can get the deal on up to four lines.

Don’t miss this Metro by T-Mobile deal for a new 5G phone line for $40/month, and a free phone included.

    How I rated this deal

I give this deal a 5/5 editors’ rating. We cover a lot of carrier phone deals, and it’s extremely rare to see one where you can actually get the phone at no cost outright instead of being paid back over time. If you’re looking for a budget phone that does all of the basics and an inexpensive phone line, this is a great deal.
