Google Play Books has become a great source for buying e-books, and it’s one of our favorite e-book storefronts on Android. The Google Play Books platform is turning 15 this weekend, and book-lovers on Android get to celebrate the milestone with a major Play Points offer.
In a blog post, Google announced that every Google Play Points user can earn bonus Play Points on any e-book purchase this weekend, spanning December 5 to December 7. Specifically, they’ll get 15 times the normal Play Points rewards for every Play Books purchase across the three-day window. The 15x Play Points promo is an obvious nod to Play Books’ birthday, and it’s a great way to stock up on rewards points while padding your e-book collection in the process.

The promotion comes at the right time, as Google recently revealed its best of 2025 collection for Play Books. If you’re looking for the right e-book to buy, Play Books’ curated collections are a good place to start. Additionally, Play Books is running a separate deal that drops the price of select e-books under $5.
For those unfamiliar, Play Points is Google’s rewards program for digital content. Users earn points by purchasing digital content and in-app purchases, and can redeem them for rewards. There’s a level-based system that offers enhanced rewards as users climb up the ranks. Typically, you earn one point for every dollar spent throughout the Google Play storefront.
That rate increases as you level up in the Play Points tier system. With the highest Diamond rewards level, users earn 1.6 points for every dollar spent. That goes to show how enticing the bonus Play Points rate on Play Books purchases is this weekend — users can earn 15 points for ever dollar spent on any Play Points level.
Play Books launched in 2010, and you might have originally known it as Google eBooks. It was rebranded to Google Play Books in 2012, at the same time as the Play Store became the unified home for buying apps, games, books, music, and movies from Google. While the Play Books storefront made it to its 15th birthday, other marketplaces did not — Google Play Music was discontinued in 2020 to make way for YouTube Music.
