The Download
- Make sure your iPhone has been synced with your computer. Use iTunes or Apple Devices to do that.
- On Windows, copy the music from iTunes or the Music app and paste it into the Music folder on your Android.
- On a Mac, upload your songs to YouTube Music or use AirDroid to copy them to your Android.
This article explains how to transfer music from iPhone to Android for free. This is a multi-step process, but still very easy to do.
Sync Your iPhone With Your Computer
Copying the music from your iPhone to your computer is the first step, whether you’re on a Windows or Mac computer.
If you already have all the music from your iPhone stored on your computer, then you’re halfway done! Otherwise, sync your iPhone to your computer to ensure that all the songs are backed up and ready to copy to your Android.
Here are some things to keep in mind during this process:
- An authorized computer is necessary to transfer all your purchases from the iTunes Store to the computer.
- If some of your music was not purchased through the iTunes Store and is not linked to your Apple ID/Apple Account, use a third-party program to transfer music from your iPhone to a Windows computer.
Although the Music app replaced iTunes on Macs with the release of macOS Catalina (10.15) in 2019, Apple still supports iTunes on Windows computers.
How to Transfer Music From iPhone to Android on Windows
After all your music has been synced to your computer, the Apple Music app is where you’ll go next to copy the songs from Windows to Android. All it takes is a simple copy and paste.
Here’s how it works:
-
Open Apple Music to the Library > Songs section.
If you don’t have it yet, download Apple Music from the Microsoft Store and then install it on your computer.
Music stored in this app is available through the Songs submenu.
-
Select each song that should be copied to your Android device.
Ctrl+A will highlight everything, or you can press Ctrl as you select specific songs.
-
Right-click one of the selected items and choose Copy.
Copy some or all of the music in the app.
-
Connect your Android device to your computer and open its Music folder.
The Android device is treated like any other storage device in Windows.
Can’t find the folder? There’s a good chance your phone needs to be configured for file transfers. Go to Settings > Connected devices > USB and choose the File transfer option.
-
Right-click somewhere in the folder and choose Paste.
Copy the selected songs to the Android device via drag and drop.
If copy/paste doesn’t work, open Apple Music and the Music folder, and then drag the files between the two windows.
-
Wait while the songs are copied over. Once your iPhone music exists on your Android, you can close Apple Music and disconnect your device from the PC.
How to Transfer Music From iPhone to Android With a Mac
Below are two easy ways to use a Mac to copy music from an iPhone to an Android.
Apple Music is one way you can listen to the same songs from iTunes on your Android, and it doesn’t require you to follow any of these lengthy steps. However, this only works if you subscribe to Apple Music, whereas the directions below offer a completely free method.
YouTube Music
You can transfer music from an iPhone to an Android device using YouTube Music. This method is useful if you already use this service or if you want your iPhone music to be available online at any time through YouTube’s website (don’t worry, all your music is still private).
-
Open a browser on your Mac, go to music.youtube.com, and log in using the same Google account that is linked to your Android device.
-
Select the Profile icon located in the upper-right corner and choose Upload music.
YouTube Music can store your songs online.
-
Select the songs you want to add.
-
After the songs have been uploaded, launch the YouTube Music app on your Android device and log in with the same account you used for uploading the music.
-
Select the Library tab at the bottom of the app.
-
Choose Library at the top, and then tap Uploads.
All your private uploads are available in the Library tab.
You can now play your music when you have an active internet connection. You can also download the songs from YouTube Music to play offline.
AirDroid
AirDroid is a free application that makes transferring music and other files between platforms super easy. You don’t even need to install it on your Mac for this to work.
Follow these directions to first connect your Mac to your Android wirelessly and then transfer your iPhone music.
-
Visit web.airdroid.com on your Mac and create an account using your email address, or sign in with your Google or Facebook account.
Create a free account or sign in to get started.
-
Install the AirDroid app on your Android and then open the app to the Me tab and choose Tap to sign in. Use the same account you created in Step 1.
While using this app for the first time, various prompts will ask for permission to send notifications, access local files, take pictures, etc. Accept the requests to continue.
-
Select Files from the AirDroid Web desktop.
Open the Files app from your Mac.
-
Select your device from the list.
Choose your phone from the list.
-
Open the Music folder to view this folder on your Android. If you already have some songs on your Android, you’ll see them listed here.
A list of current songs on your Android is displayed in the Music folder.
-
Select Upload file or Upload folder.
-
Select the files or folder on your Mac that contains the music originally stored on your iPhone, and then click Upload or Open.
Select music to transfer from your Mac to your Android.
-
Wait while the music is copied from your Mac to your Android. When it’s finished, you can close out of AirDroid on both devices.
