We love a good teaser trailer, and the first one for Obsession is exactly that. It’s just a few shots making up one tiny sliver of the bigger picture. But within that space, your mind races with the possibilities. Just as a good teaser trailer should do.
From writer-director Curry Barker, Obsession stars Michael Johnston as Bear, a man who is deeply in love with one of his friends, Nikki, played by Inde Navarrette. She doesn’t share those feelings, though, so one day, Bear randomly decides to make a wish with a cheap little toy called a “One Wish Willow.” Only the toy works.
Now, Nikki loves Bear more than anything else in the world. And we do mean anything. Here’s the teaser for what we think will be one of 2026’s most beloved and messed-up movies, Obsession.
Why would Bear want to alter his wish? Who is on the other end of the phone line? How is it possible that wishes are real?
All those questions and more get posed, and some get answered, in Obsession. The film debuted at the Toronto International Film Festival earlier this year and quickly got scooped up by Focus Features. Now, the studio is aiming to release it at the start of the biggest film season of the year, which is a massive vote of confidence, and rightfully so.
That’s because, as we said in our review, Obsession is fantastic. You so rarely get horror movies with unique concepts anymore, and this one blends that with romance and drama. You truly never know what’s going to happen next. Think about it. Nikki loves Bear more than anything. How far does that go? More than her own health? More than her own family? More than their jobs? What would she risk, or do, to make sure Bear stays with her? You’ll have to wait until May to find out.
Read our full review, which is non-spoiler, of Obsession at this link. It opens May 15, 2026.
