Samsung has finally announced its very first tri-fold smartphone, and its name is the Galaxy Z TriFold. The leaked name turned out to be accurate, as the company officially announced the device on December 1 (EST, PST) / December 2 (CET, BST)! It was shown behind glass recently… and partially, but now we not only get to see the phone in its true colors, not to mention that plenty of details are available. We’ve already covered the launch event of the phone, and are here to provide you with far more information about the device.
In this article, we’ll talk not only about the specifications that the phone brings, but its availability, colors, features, and other information that are available at the moment. This article will be updated as more information appears, so it will be a constant source of Galaxy Z TriFold information. With that being said, let’s get to it, starting with the device’s spec sheet.
Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold specs
As expected, the Galaxy Z TriFold has high-end specs. As rumored, the Snapdragon 8 Elite SoC from Qualcomm fuels the device. Samsung didn’t opt for the latest Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chip, and that’s not exactly surprising. The Galaxy Z TriFold is a new type of phone for Samsung, and it was in development for a long time. Last-minute SoC changes probably weren’t on the table. The phone was optimized for the Snapdragon 8 Elite, which is an extremely powerful processor.
It includes 16GB of RAM and a 5,600mAh battery
In addition to that chip, Samsung includes 16GB of RAM inside the device, along with 512GB or 1TB of storage. The storage is not expandable, by the way. A 5,600mAh battery is included, though Samsung is using a three-cell battery system here. 45W Super-Fast Charging 2.0 is supported, along with 15W Fast Wireless Charging 2.0. Yes, the phone also supports reverse wireless charging aka Wireless PowerShare. Those speeds probably go up to 4.5W or 5W, though Samsung didn’t mention anything.
What about the displays? Yes, plural. Unlike the offerings from Huawei, this tri-fold smartphone has two displays. The main one is a 10-inch QXGA+ (2160 x 1584) Dynamic AMOLED 2X panel. That display offers a 1,600-nit peak brightness, and it supports adaptive refresh rate (1-120Hz). The cover display measures 6.5 inches in diagonal, and it’s a fullHD+ (2520 x 1080) Dynamic AMOLED 2X display. That panel’s peak brightness is 2,600 nits, while it also supports adaptive brightness (1-120Hz). Corning’s Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2 protects the cover display.
It has three cameras on the back, led by a 200MP main shooter
There are three cameras included on the back of the phone, one on the main display, and one on the cover display, so a total of 5. A 200-megapixel main camera (f/1.7 aperture, OIS, 0.6um pixel size, 85-degree FoV) is backed by a 12-megapixel ultrawide camera (f/2.2 aperture, 1.4um pixel size, 120-degree FoV). The third camera is a 10-megapixel telephoto unit (f/2.4 aperture, OIS, PDAF, 3x optical zoom, 36-degree FoV). Both the main and cover display have a 10-megapixel selfie unit (f/2.2 aperture, 1.12um pixel size, 85-degree FoV).
Android 16 comes pre-installed on the phone, along with Samsung’s OneUI skin. Bluetooth 5.4 is on offer, as is Wi-Fi 7. There is a fingerprint scanner built into the power/lock key, while the phone has two nano SIM card slots and supports multi eSIM. It comes in one color, Crafted Black, and measures 159.2 x 76 x 12.9mm when folded. When unfolded, it measures 159.2 x 214.1 x 3.9mm / 4.2mm (center screen) / 4mm (screen with the side button). It has several folding possibilities. The phone weighs 309 grams.

How much does the Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold cost?
Samsung did not announce the price tags for the device just yet. We do know that there will be two models, but the prices will differ from one region to the next, and we still don’t know a price for either of them… at least not officially. Rumors were all over the place, so we’ll wait until official information is available.
Where can I buy the Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold?
Unlike the pricing info, Samsung did share the availability information for the phone. The device was announced in Korea, while that’s also the first market it will become available in, starting on December 12. It’s not the only market that it will be available in, however. Korea will be followed by China, Taiwan, Singapore, the UAE, and the US. Those are the only markets that the company mentioned. Samsung also said that the phone will be offered at “select retail stores in respective launch countries for hands-on discovery.”
What carriers does it work on?
Considering that the Galaxy Z TriFold still didn’t launch in the US, we cannot really comment on that. Once it does arrive in the US, however, we bet it will have a wide range of compatibility, just like the Galaxy S, Galaxy Z Flip, and Galaxy Z Fold series smartphones. So, that’s not something you should worry about. More information will be revealed later on.
What colors does the Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold come in?
Samsung has announced only one color option for the Galaxy Z TriFold thus far, the Crafted Black. That’s basically a matte black color. We’re not sure if more colors will become available later on, but considering the high price of the phone and the fact that this is a new form factor for Samsung, it’s not surprising that the company went with only one color.
The Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold’s most notable features & doubts?
This is one of the most exciting smartphones that the company announced in years, that much is obvious. Samsung is the second company to announce a tri-fold smartphone, beaten only by Huawei. The tri-fold form factor is still a novelty, and it does bring some advantages and some drawbacks with it. Let’s see what are some of the upsides of the phone, and also some downsides, based on the information that we have thus far (based on launch info).
The tri-fold factor
While many phones out there now have two displays, one of which is foldable, this phone takes things to a whole new level. Its main display can become smaller if you need it to be. While it’s 10 inches when fully unfolded, if you fold only a part of it, you’ll end up with something closer to 8 inches. Then, if you, for example, want to fully fold it, as you need an even smaller phone/display, you can fold it all the way, and use the 6.5-inch cover display on the back. It’s very versatile. From 6.5 to 10 inches in a jiffy.
Not the most powerful, but an extremely powerful chip
The Snapdragon 8 Elite is an upside here. No, it’s not the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, but this processor is still a beast. It is very powerful and powerful enough to keep this phone running for years to come. That is paired with plenty of RAM and fast storage, so performance is not something you should worry about.
Latest version of Android
Android 16 comes pre-installed on the device, along with Samsung’s OneUI 8. Now, Samsung has plenty of foldable features that we know full well from the Galaxy Z Fold series, but we’re expecting some new ones here. We’ll have to dive deeper into the software to find that out, but… Samsung’s software is usually great for foldables, so we’re expecting a great experience here.
“Samsung’s most advanced hinges yet”
That’s what the company said in its press release, and it’s good to hear, of course. The company says that it refined the Armor FlexHinge “to meet the unique demands of Galaxy Z TriFold.” The folding experience should be more stable and reliable at the same time. Samsung utilizes a dual-rail structure with two differently sized hinges.
Advanced materials
Samsung used a titanium hinge housing here, a thin piece of metal that protects the folding mechanism and resists wear. The frame of the device is supported by Advanced Armor Aluminum, which is a high-strength alloy that “adds rigidity without increasing bulk.”
Will the battery capacity be enough?
The Galaxy Z TriFold includes a 5,600mAh battery. That is the same battery capacity that Huawei used in its tri-fold smartphones. That is also the battery capacity of the OPPO Find N5, a large-format foldable. The thing is, if you’re using the main display often, we’re wondering how well will that battery capacity will hold. It is a 10-inch display after all. It remains to be seen, but we’re optimistic. It’s just jarring to see when regular smartphones have 7,000mAh+ batteries these days.
What cases are available for the Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold?
We have no information about the official cases for the device thus far.

Should I buy the Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold?
It’s way too soon to answer this question. The device will have very limited availability at first, and if you do live in one of the markets it will become available in, waiting for reviews may be your best bet. We also don’t know the price of the device thus far, and that will play a huge role in the whole story. It sure is an exciting device, that much is hard to deny. Whether it will be worth it, well, it remains to be seen.
