Samsung has finally revealed its tri-fold smartphone, following months of rumors and leaks. It’s a phone that unfolds to reveal a 10-inch screen, and you’ll be able to buy one starting in 2026.
Samsung’s current folding phones, the Galaxy Z Fold and Galaxy Z Flip, only have one folding point on the screen. A screen with three or four folding points could potentially create a larger screen when unfolded, and Huawei proved it could be done with last year’s Mate XT in China. Samsung showed off a prototype of a tri-fold phone back in October, and now the company is sharing pictures and some technical details.
Much like the existing Galaxy Z Fold and Flip, the upcoming Galaxy Z TriFold is a phone with two displays: a screen on the outside, and a larger inside screen revealed by fully unfolding the device. The interior display will measure 10 inches across, similar in size to a typical iPad or Galaxy Tablet. It will also support the Samsung DeX desktop environment on the internal screen, just like the Galaxy Z Fold, so you can more easily multitask with app windows.
Samsung says the phone will be 3.9 millimeters in depth when unfolded. That’s thinner than the unfolded Galaxy Z Fold 7 (4.2mm), iPhone Air (5.64mm), Galaxy S25 Edge (5.8mm), and just about every other smartphone. However, that doesn’t include the camera bump, and we don’t know the exact measurements for its folded form.
It looks like each panel has a uniform depth, so the phone could be somewhere around 11.7 mm when folded up. That would make it significantly bulkier than the Galaxy S25 Ultra (8.2mm), iPhone 17 Pro Max (8.75mm), and the folded Galaxy Z Fold 7 (8.9mm). The camera module also extends far beyond the rear panel.
The company also confirmed that the Galaxy Z TriFold will have a “flagship-level 200MP camera system.” Samsung has gone back and forth on camera quality with its foldable phones, since more advanced cameras can increase the physical size and price tag. The Galaxy S25 Ultra and Galaxy Z Fold 7 also have a 200MP sensor on the main camera. There are two more rear cameras on the TriFold, which are probably ultra-wide and telephoto lenses, but we don’t know for sure yet.
The Galaxy Z TriFold will be released in the United States in the first quarter of 2026, and South Korea will get it earlier on December 12, 2025. Pricing has not been revealed, but I would expect it to be more expensive than the Galaxy Z Fold, which already starts at $2,000.
