Maxlite Air V2 Compact Carry-On
We’re a big fan of Travelpro as a brand, and as WIRED editor Adrienne So says, its bags are “durable, light, and not too expensive.” It’s why so often they’re the travel bag of choice for pilots and flight attendants.
Our top pick, the new Maxlite Air V2, is an updated polycarbonate version of the older nylon model, especially noteworthy for being a pound lighter than many of the other carry-on bags we’ve tested. It’s also on sale, but only 20 percent off. While the Maxlite Air V2 is a smaller, lighter bag, the Platinum Elite has features like the built-in battery for charging devices on the go and an accessible side pocket for your back-up battery. You can’t wrong either way, but the normal $220 difference between these two models is now down to just $15 for Black Friday.
Admittedly, these Travelpro bags have a classic look, but they’re not exactly trendy. So, if you want something a bit more modern-looking, I’d point you in the direction of another of our favorite travel bands, Away. In particular, the Away Softside Carry-On has a modern, sleek look that’ll keep you traveling in style while still appearing understated.

They also come in packs of four, but helpfully, include two small and two medium sizes.
