Samsung may soon follow Apple’s move into financial products with the launch of a credit card for customers in the United States.

According to a report from The Wall Street Journal, citing people familiar with the matter, Samsung intends to partner with UK bank Barclays to launch its first financial service for US customers.

The report says the brands intend to run the card on the Visa payment network. Barclays reportedly wants to expand its US footprint, while Samsung wants to encourage more brand loyalty across its consumer products.

The sources also say Samsung wants to further improve its Wallet app by offering full integration for the credit card. The service may see customers able to earn cashback on purchases, which can then be traded for discounts on Samsung gadgets.

The WSJ report says the talks between Barclays and Samsung are ongoing. If the brands decide to move ahead, each intends to announce the service before the end of the year. The rumors don’t share when the service would likely go live.

Samsung is likely looking to directly challenge Apple’s successful credit card service. According to the sources, Samsung has attempted to launch a similar product before with talks starting in 2018 around the launch of a credit card before eventually stalling.

Samsung offers similar co-branded cards in its home market of South Korea and India, but this would mark the first time it has done similar in the US.

Samsung is rumored to be introducing its next flagship phone in the first few months of 2026, so it may be able to tie the launch of a credit card in to encourage users who want to upgrade to a new Galaxy S26 device.
