Every week, Netflix delivers a bunch of new content for viewers to stream. Watching all of it would take you more time than exists in a week, so I start my weekend by choosing three top picks for the next seven days. November is here, and the big news is Guillermo del Toro’s long-awaited Frankenstein, but we also have samurai action, Christmas movies, and more.
This Week on Netflix: PCMag’s Picks
Frankenstein (Nov. 7)
One of the most anticipated movies of the year, Guillermo del Toro’s take on the classic Frankenstein tale of a man made from corpse parts has been in production since 2007, with a variety of actors slated to play the monster. Jacob Elordi is winning raves for his standout performance as the creature, and the visual design and atmosphere are unbeatable. Shame it didn’t land before Halloween, but you can’t have everything.
Director: Guillermo del Toro
Cast: Oscar Isaac, Jacob Elordi, Mia Goth
Genre: Horror
Rating: R
IMDb Rating: 7.4/10
Tee Yai: Born To Be Bad (Nov. 13)
Tee Yai: Born To Be Bad looks like a hoot and a half from the trailer. Set in Bangkok in the 1980s, it’s based on the true story of one of the most legendary criminals in the country’s history. When his second-in-command finds love and wants to get out of the criminal life, things get bad for Tee Yai, but when a newly motivated policeman dedicates himself to catching him no matter what the cost, things get really wild.
Director: Nonzee Nimibutr
Cast: Wisarut Himmarat, Supassra Thanachat, Apo Nattawin Wattanagitiphat
Genre: Action
Rating: TV-MA
Last Samurai Standing (Nov. 13)
This looks fun, sort of a Meiji-era Squid Game. Shujiro is a swordsman who has yet to be defeated in battle, but when the best blades in all of Japan gather for a battle royale where the winner is the one who reaches Tokyo with their life intact, he must face off with a wide variety of samurai in order to make the money to save his sick family. We’re ready to binge Last Samurai Standing.
