Imagine asking your favorite AI assistant to pull together a killer research report, and instead of just Googling, it digs through your Gmail, Drive, and Chat to find the juiciest insights.

Well that’s what Google’s Gemini Deep Research now lets you do, with the tech giant noting it as “one of our most-requested features” for Gemini Deep Research.

Let’s say you’re about to launch a new product. With a few clicks, Gemini can read through your team’s brainstorming emails, project plans, and even spreadsheets buried deep in your Drive.

It then consolidates all that private info with Google Search results for a super-focused and highly personalized output.

“Now you can start a market analysis for a new product by having Deep Research analyze your team’s initial brainstorming docs, related email threads and project plans”, it was stated in Gemini’s announcement blog.

“Or you can build a competitor report about a rival product that cross-references public web data with your strategies, comparison spreadsheets and team chats.”

    How does it work?

The chatbot starts by mapping out a multi-step research plan. It then scours the web for info, pulling everything together into a detailed report. Want to add more details or make changes? Just ask.

You can even export the finished report as a Google Doc, or turn it into an AI-generated podcast if you prefer listening over reading.

    Take control

Here’s what’s really cool: You get to decide how deep Gemini goes. Once ‘deep research’ is selected in the prompts bar, simply turn on or off Gmail, Drive, and/or Chat, or just stick to the public web.

Gemini will blend all of your selected sources into its research, depending on what’s activated.

Currently, the function is only available on desktop, but Google says it will launch on mobile in the coming days.

It is available to anyone on desktop, with all regions becoming available at the same time. Normally, these kinds of features start off in the US and slowly roll out from there.

    Google’s big Gemini rollout

Google has been slowly rolling out new Gemini features across its many platforms over the past couple of weeks.

Gemini has come to Google Maps, and Google’s AI search mode has recently seen improvements in its usability.

We will likely only see more of this over the next couple of weeks, with expectations that Gemini 3 Pro will launch at the end of this month.
