    Byte-Sized Brief

    • Samsung unveils Galaxy XR, its first AI-native headset.
    • It’s built on Android XR with Gemini at the system level.
    • Available now in the US and Korea for $1,799.99.

Samsung has launched Galaxy XR, an AI-powered headset built on the Android XR platform created with Google and Qualcomm. It runs Gemini directly within the system to let users interact naturally through their voice, gestures, and vision. You can ask Gemini for directions in Google Maps, pull up a YouTube video, or use Circle to Search while seeing the real world via pass-through mode. Android apps are optimized for XR, so Google Photos, Maps, and others work in immersive 3D environments.

The headset uses the Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 processor with a 4K micro OLED display and advanced tracking for movement, head, and eye control. The lightweight design includes a detachable light shield and a separate battery pack for comfort; the battery lasts up to 2.5 hours. Galaxy XR also connects to Samsung’s broader XR plans, including AI glasses that will use the same Android XR system (a step toward a multi-device ecosystem). The Galaxy XR costs $1,799.99 and is on sale now in the US and Korea through the company’s website and Samsung Experience Stores.

    The Bottom Line

Samsung’s Galaxy XR puts Gemini-powered AI inside a headset that blends digital tools with the real world. It marks the first move in the company’s plan to build a full extended reality platform with Google and Qualcomm.
