The weekend is the perfect time to marathon some great movies, and over on Netflix, the streaming service has been refreshing its film library in recent weeks to give subscribers plenty of fresh options to consider. These range from new originals to more familiar favorites from years gone by.

I’ve combed through Netflix’s latest additions in October 2025, and I’ve picked out three movies that I’m definitely (re)watching this weekend. While my chosen trio does contain two thrillers, I’ve also found a late 2000s rom-com that the critics didn’t love, but I can’t help but have a fondness feelings towards. At least one of these new to Netflix movies should appeal to you.

Meanwhile, if you’re in more of a binge-watching mood, be sure to check out our companion article covering the latest Netflix TV shows to watch this weekend. And now onto the three Netflix movies I recommend you watch over the next couple of days.

    ‘Confessions of a Shopaholic’ (2009)

Not to go all David Grohl here, but “I’ve got another confession to make,” and it’s that I have a real soft spot for “Confessions of a Shopaholic.” Now, this might be because my younger sister owned the DVD in our youth and rewatched the movie endlessly. Frankly, if you’re forced to watch any movie night and day for months, your resistance is eventually broken down (Stockholm Syndrome is a thing!). But the real reason this glossy, but undeniably vapid, rom-com works is the sparky performance of Isla Fisher as a New Yorker up to her Prada sunglasses in credit card debt.

Rebecca Bloomwood (Fisher) dreams of working for her favorite fashion magazine, Alette. But when she finds herself instead working for a financial advice magazine, there’s a real irony to her weekly column because she’s a shopaholic, battling a compulsive need to spend money she doesn’t have. At the same time, she’s falling in love with the magazine’s editor, Luke (Hugh Dancy), and also has a very grumpy debt collector hot on her designer heels.

    ‘Don’t Say a Word’ (2001)

    Watch On

Netflix subscribers have been rediscovering 2001’s “Don’t Say a Word” over the past few days, with the movie staking a claim in the service’s top 10 most-watched list, and it’s not hard to see why. Thriller movies are always popular on Netflix, and this one stars Michael Douglas, Sean Bean and Brittany Murphy; that’s plenty of 2000s starpower. It’s also got a pretty hooky premise, which has clearly been enough to draw in viewers. Though it’s worth noting it has a pretty poor critical reception with 23% on Rotten Tomatoes, that’s a tad harsh for me, this psychological thriller is no “The Woman in Cabin 10.”

Nathan Conrad (Douglas) is a therapist in a nightmare situation when a ruthless criminal (Sean Bean) kidnaps his daughter and holds her to ransom. But it’s not money the crook is after. He wants Nathan to extract a mysterious six-digit code from the memory of a traumatized teenager named Elisabeth (Murphy), currently living in a psychiatric institution. Complicating matters further is that Elisabeth hasn’t spoken to anybody in 10 years.

    ‘A House of Dynamite’ (2025)

    Watch On

I’ve been particularly underwhelmed with Netflix’s original movie output in 2025, and it’s been several months since the platform dropped a streaming exclusive flick that I was truly eager to shout about. But the drought is over. “A House of Dynamite” is the Netflix movie I’ve been wanting for ages. It’s a high-quality political thriller from Oscar-winning director Kathryn Bigelow. Just be warned, its bleak subject matter isn’t going to make you feel good about the current state of the world, and the lack of a firm resolution will frustrate viewers who demand answers to every question raised.

“A House of Dynamite” explores the government fallout when a nuclear mission is launched at the continental United States. With the clock to impact ticking down, various departments and agencies are tasked with identifying the enemy responsible for the attack and figuring out how to respond to an unthinkable scenario. One of the most tense Netflix movies I’ve ever seen, “A House of Dynamite” is a masterclass in building suspense.
