Fellow streaming entertainment enthusiasts, I must say, this is a weekend of thrilling releases. From true-life documentaries and anticipated horror-thriller movie premieres to new seasons of a Taylor Sheridan show and a Kristen Bell series, season premieres of a Stephen King-approved prequel, a Harlan Coben miniseries, and another installment in Anne Rice’s Immortal Universe, there’s plenty here to keep you occupied until the candy knockers arrive.

Here are 11 new shows and movies to watch on Netflix, HBO Max, Hulu, and more this weekend.

    1

The Hand That Rocks the Cradle

A reimagining of the 1992 cult classic psychological thriller, The Hand That Rocks the Cradle is essentially about a nanny who terrorizes a family. It claims to flip the original script upside down with the addition of some new characters and increase the shock factor while unraveling the illusion of domestic bliss with chilling precision.

The movie follows a young, affluent suburban couple, Caitlin and Miguel Morales (Ahsoka’s Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Task’s Raúl Castillo), as they search for a new nanny for their baby daughter. When the charming Polly Murphy (Maika Monroe, of Longlegs) shows up, she seems like a fit and is eventually hired. As Polly settles into the plush family home and gets comfortable, it becomes clear she isn’t who she claims to be. In fact, she’s there with such evil intentions, you might want your own baby blanket to hide under as you watch.

The Hand That Rocks the Cradle released directly to Hulu on Wednesday, October 22, 2025.

Armed Only With A Camera: The Life and Death of Brent Renaud

True-story alert! Armed Only With A Camera: The Life and Death of Brent Renaud is a heartfelt documentary serving as a tribute to all the journalists who risk their lives daily to provide the world with real-time coverage of its most dangerous events and conflicts. Respect.

In March 2022, journalist Brent Renaud became the first American reporter to be killed by Russian soldiers in Ukraine. His brother, filmmaker Craig Renaud, recovered his body and final recordings, then accompanied them home to his family in Arkansas, where he created a cinematic work of art highlighting the critical value of wartime reporting in tribute to his brother. The documentary chronicles the time Brent and Craig spent together covering some of the world’s most dangerous conflicts and features an unshakable depiction of death, loss, and the toll of war in this raw exposure of the truth.

Armed Only With A Camera: The Life and Death of Brent Renaud premiered Tuesday, October 21, 2025, and is currently streaming on HBO Max.

    Harlan Coben’s Lazarus

If you’re a Harlan Coben fan and find yourself craving fresh content, you’re in luck—a fresh horror-thriller from the titular author awaits you.

Harlan Coben’s Lazarus is a miniseries that is equal parts brain-teaser and spine-tingler that’s topped off with a wild, eerie ride. Sam Claflin (The Count of Monte Cristo) stars as Joel “Laz” Lazarus, a forensic psychologist who is dragged back into his family’s dark past after his father’s suspicious suicide. As he begins to unravel mysteries of both a personal and a deadly nature, cold-case murders, decades-old family secrets, and strange, unexplained visions of the dead collide.

Harlan Coben’s Lazarus premiered Wednesday, October 22, 2025, and is currently streaming on Prime Video.

Mob War: Philadelphia vs. The Mafia

A captivating true-crime docuseries, Mob War: Philadelphia vs. The Mafia revisits the City of Brotherly Love’s epic criminal clashes in the 1990s and chronicles the mafia’s violent, bloody power struggle.

On a sweltering hot day in August 1993, stewing tensions within Philadelphia’s underworld erupted in a storm of gunfire. Those loyal to John Stanfa, who seized control of the mob after the downfall of Nicky Scarfo, ambushed and injured rival boss Joey Merlino. In the process, he killed his trusted capo, or captain. A few weeks later, a bold drive-by meant for Stanfa left his son severely wounded and sent the message that no one is safe from the bloodshed.

The three-part docuseries returns to the era of open mob warfare, to a time when violence and fear gripped the local community, the national media descended on the city like a plague of locusts, and tenacious investigators rushed to bring an end to the deadly chaos.

Mob War: Philadelphia vs. The Mob premiered Wednesday, October 22, 2025, and is currently streaming on Netflix.

    Nobody Wants This (Season 2)

Back for another successful season is the hit Kristen Bell-led rom-com Nobody Wants This. As it turns out, everybody wanted it, and now you have a new season with 10 episodes to revel in as a break from all the horror-centric titles this month.

The Netflix Original series follows agnostic sex podcaster Joanne (Bell) and her charming rabbi beau Noah (Adam Brody, of American Fiction) as they engage in a heartfelt swan dive into coupledom. I should mention all this comes in the wake of their season one against-all-odds reconciliation. Season Two will dig into the very messy and painful but hilariously relatable efforts not just of staying together but of thriving and surviving as a couple. We’ll continue to follow Joanne and Noah in their whirlwind romance as they encounter a bit of turbulence in dealing with family drama, career setbacks, and, per the official logline, “one very big looming question.” Whether it’s the one we’re all thinking of remains to be seen.

Nobody Wants This, season two, premiered in its entirety on Thursday, October 23, 2025, on Netflix.

    6

    Weapons (2025)

Finally, your chance to stream 2025’s most-talked-about horror movie is here, and it’s the must-watch of the weekend. Jump scares, a viscerally terrifying narrative, and the supernatural await you in Weapons—the sophomore project of Barbarian director Zach Cregger.

One night in a small town, all the schoolchildren from Justine Gandy’s (Julia Garner, of Ozark) class disappear. At 2:17 a.m., they got out of bed and ran into the street, arms akimbo style, then vanished into thin air without making so much as a single peep. The following day, a freaked-out community full of parents, teachers, and administrators lashes out at Justine, blaming her for something she, herself, doesn’t even understand.

Just as tensions reach a boiling point, chaos ensues when the children return, but it’s clear they’re no longer the kids they used to be. With faces smeared in theatrical makeup, they now seem wild and disoriented, moving in packs and refusing to speak. Something happened to them, and whatever it was is not over. If you’re a grownup like me, you’re gonna want to watch it with a light on.

Weapons makes its streaming premiere today on HBO Max.

Stiller & Meara: Nothing is Lost

From award-winning actor-director Ben Stiller comes an endearing tribute to his parents, comedy icons Jerry Stiller and Anne Meara.

Stiller & Meara: Nothing is Lost traverses the Stiller family legacy and explores the comedy duo’s impact on pop culture and family, where, at home, the lines between family life, creativity, and art were often blurred. The famed director and his own little family also spend some time on-camera discussing Jerry and Anne’s influence on their lives.

With the use of archival recordings, footage, and letters, as well as interviews with friends and collaborators of the late couple to tell their complete story, the documentary addresses the challenges and insecurities that come with being a showbiz family while also examining the generational lessons we can all learn from those we love if we just take the time to inquire and listen.

Stiller & Meara: Nothing is Lost premieres today on Apple TV.

    A House of Dynamite (2025)

A new political thriller from Oscar-winning filmmaker Kathryn Bigelow (The Hurt Locker, Zero Dark Thirty), A House of Dynamite tackles the crisis of trying to forge ahead in a world on the brink of total destruction. If you’re familiar with Bigelow’s work, then you already know to expect a nightmare situation presented with remarkable detail and intense emotion.

On a typical day in Fort Greely, Alaska, radars detect an incoming nuclear missile headed right for Chicago, Illinois. A chain reaction ensues when various governmental departments rush to locate and identify the source of the launch, as well as figure out not just how to respond but also how to stop their impending doom. The movie features an all-star cast led by Rebecca Ferguson, of Silo, and Hijack‘s Idris Elba. It also includes Jason Clarke, of The Last Frontier, Willa Fitzgerald (Pulse), Mad Men’s Jared Harris, Russian Doll’s Greta Lee, and Kaitlyn Dever, of No One Will Save You.

A House of Dynamite premieres today on Netflix.

    9

    Mayor of Kingstown (Season 4)

This weekend, Mayor of Kingstown, Taylor Sheridan’s hit gritty crime series, returns with its long-awaited—on pins and needles, I might add—fourth season.

Jeremy Renner is back as Mike McLusky, the unofficial underground mayor and city fixer between warring prison and gang factions. The end of season three left us breathless, then elated, then heartbroken by its surprise ending. Season four will see Mike’s control over Kingstown threatened as new players enter the game in a competition to fill the giant power vacuum left in the wake of the Russians’ annihilation.

Season four will up the tension—as if it hasn’t been laden with it thus far—and bring in a powerful new nemesis to go toe-to-toe with Mike, and trust me when I tell you that will be an encounter you’ll want to see play out. The Soprano’s Edie Falco will play this force of nature as the new headstrong prison warden. Additionally, we’ll also see Mike continuing to grapple with angry demons from his past.

Mayor of Kingstown, season four, will see a two-episode premiere on Sunday, October 26, 2025, on Paramount+. New episodes will roll out weekly on Sundays through December.

Anne Rice’s Talamasca: The Secret Order

The most highly anticipated new series in the acclaimed author’s Immortal Universe, Anne Rice’s Talamasca: The Secret Order is about a secret society of men and women whose job it is to keep tabs on the supernatural beings roaming the earth. The Talamasca protect the mortal realm from harm.

On the verge of graduating from law school, Guy Anatole (Dangerous Liaisons’ Nicholas Denton) is visited by a Talamascan representative and learns his life has been under surveillance since childhood by a secret agency that monitors witches, vampires, and other supernatural forces. Under the tutelage of the ruthless Helen (Elizabeth McGovern, of the Downton Abbey franchise) and the beguiling Olive (Maisie Richardson-Sellers, of Nine Perfect Strangers), Guy stumbles down a rabbit hole and is plunged into a world full of secret agents and immortal beings as immortal politics and mortal danger collide.

Anne Rice’s Talamasca: The Secret Order premieres Sunday, October 26, 2025, at 9 p.m. ET on AMC+.
